Alien³ on the NES is a run‑and‑gun platformer that follows Lt. Ellen Ripley as she searches a maximum‑security prison on a remote planet for captured survivors. The game features large, multi‑path stages that require careful exploration and resource management, but a strict time limit forces players to rush through the levels. Despite its drab color palette of maroon, teal, and neon green, the graphics contain detailed backgrounds and unsettling imagery. The soundtrack by Jeroen Tel adds atmospheric depth. While the gameplay is solid, the time constraint is a fatal design flaw that makes the game frustratingly difficult to complete, even though it is still better than many other LJN titles. The overall tone is somber and oppressive, mirroring the movie, and the game remains enjoyable despite its shortcomings.
