Amateur astronomer John Putnam (Richard Carlson) witnesses a meteor falling in the desert near his home. He discovers a crashed alien spaceship buried by a landslide and informs the town sheriff, but is ridiculed. His fiancée, Ellen (Barbara Rush), is skeptical.
