Katniss Everdeen volunteers as tribute in place of her little sister Primrose. Based on Suzanne Collins' best‑selling novel, the film follows a 16‑year‑old girl who is selected to compete in a televised tournament where 24 teenagers from a post‑apocalyptic society fight to the death for the entertainment of the masses. In the future, North America has become Panem, a divided nation split into 12 districts. Each year, each district selects a male and female tribute to test their worth in the Hunger Games, broadcast across the nation as entertainment and to reinforce the government's power. When her younger sister is chosen as District 12's tribute, Katniss volunteers to take her place and trains under former champion Haymitch Abernathy to sharpen her killer instincts. She must use all her skills to survive and emerge victorious.
