After seeing photos of Saudi's Farasan Islands, I was skeptical about the lush mangrove forests they supposedly have. I decided to visit to see for myself whether the islands truly boast such greenery or if it was just propaganda. The Farasan Islands are a permanently inhabited archipelago of 262 islands off the coast of the Arabian Peninsula on the Red Sea. They feature incredible coral reefs and marine life, and historically were a Roman military outpost, as revealed by excavated Roman ruins, including a church. In this video, I explore the islands' nature, history, cuisine, and local life with my guide Othman Humog. 0:00 Intro 0:55 Mangrove Forest Boat Tour 🚤 3:43 Fishing 🐠 4:23 Snorkeling in the Coral Reefs 🪸 5:23 Fish Market 7:37 Banana porridge (Marsa) 9:04 Seafood Lunch 13:24 Historic Village 14:59 Roman Ruins 15:56 Wild Stingrays 16:02 Sunset Views 17:08 Local Artisans
