Al Greenall is an artist and philosopher with a deep sensitivity for what it means to be a conscious being in this awe‑inspiring physical universe. He believes we are all creative beings and that accessing our creativity becomes ever more vital as we respond to extraordinary challenges. Born in Salford in 1981 and raised near the Malvern Hills, he was excited about books, music and art, and his interests grew from media studies, cultural theory and the nature of perception. After practical training with a Foundation Studies Diploma in Art and Design at Cheltenham College of Art, he earned a B.A. Hons in Visual Culture in Brighton, studied Film at Falmouth College of Arts, and taught Visual Culture at Bristol University. Greenall returned to painting in the early 2000s to augment his theory work, and has consistently produced, exhibited and written about art ever since. His passion for working with people and food led to a dual career as restaurant manager and concept developer, and he now works with cultural community projects and teaches arts and humanities to youth groups. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
