On 14 November 2024 at 12 pm, I walked the Bosley Locks on the Macclesfield Canal in Cheshire, a 3.78‑mile route through the English countryside. The locks, a flight of 12 engineered steps built between 1826 and 1831 by Thomas Telford and William Crosley, rise 118 ft (36 m) between Macclesfield and Congleton, surrounded by the Cheshire Plain and the Peak District National Park. The walk offers quiet scenery, no talking, just the sound of water and the surrounding landscape. It was a beautiful, peaceful stroll through a historic industrial route.
