Argentine-born Major Ernesto Che Guevara, commander of the Cuban Revolution, was interviewed by RTÉ at Dublin Airport during a diplomatic mission. While en route from New York to Algeria after a UN General Assembly meeting, his flight was diverted from Shannon to Dublin due to fog, leaving him weather‑bound in the city. He spoke with RTÉ reporter Seán Egan, with Aer Lingus air hostess Felima Archer acting as interpreter, discussing the political situation in Cuba and recent threats to his life. The interview was broadcast by RTÉ News on 18 December 1964.
