Raised among the dead and mentored by a grizzled gravedigger, young Johnny grows up with a shovel in one hand and a gun in the other. Together, he and old John Applebee make their living collecting corpses and chasing wartime receipts in a world where death pays—if you know how to collect. As war rages and morals blur, Applebee dreams of trading blood for business, hoping to build a grand funeral parlor and give Johnny a shot at respectability.
