The tale follows Ilya Muromets, a legendary hero who, after years of paralysis, regains his strength with the help of three wandering travelers who give him a drink of strong ale. With renewed vigor, he leaves his village, travels to Kiev, and later confronts the bandit Svyat, the rogue of the Smorodinka river, defeating him and earning great honor.
