In this video I restore a very rusty and broken scooter from the 1970s that I bought at an online auction for $40. I was drawn to its design, especially the aluminium cast wheels, but I knew it would be a challenging project. I had to replace the tires and handles, and I had no idea how to make them, so I did extensive research on resin and rubber casting with the help of my friend @misterpatina, who organized the polyurethane rubber for me. Getting the right hardness and color was difficult. The rear fender was missing, so I had to shape a new one from metal—a first for me—but after a successful test piece with aluminium I was optimistic and it worked out perfectly. I was also concerned about chrome plating the handlebar, which is toxic, so I opted for nickel plating instead, which gives a slightly yellowish goldish touch. After test pieces I decided to polish and nickel plate all steel parts for a uniform look and rust protection. The project was the most difficult one I’ve tackled, requiring many new techniques and taking 50 days in the workshop to complete. I put my heart into this little scooter and it turned out absolutely fantastic, with grey and blue paint, shiny nickel‑plated parts, and new cast creme‑white tires and handles coming together nicely. I’m very happy with how it turned out and hope you enjoy the video.
