Iran has the capacity to start enriching uranium again for a possible bomb in a matter of months, says Rafael Grossi, head of the IAEA. He said US strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites caused severe but not total damage to the enrichment programme, contradicting President Donald Trump's claim that the bombing had totally obliterated the facilities. Iran’s deputy foreign minister told the BBC that the US must rule out further strikes if it wants to resume diplomatic talks, noting that the Trump administration has not clarified whether it might conduct further attacks while talks are underway. Israel attacked nuclear and military sites in Iran on 13 June, claiming Iran was close to building a nuclear weapon, and the US later joined the strikes, bombing Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan. The true extent of the damage remains unclear, but a leaked US intelligence report and the IAEA assessment suggest the strikes only set back the programme by months. Trump responded angrily, declaring the sites were completely destroyed and accusing the media of attempting to demean a successful military strike. Reeta Chakrabarti presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Lyse Doucet in Tehran.
