Marina Kazantseva, a third‑year student with a romantic nature, falls in love with her physical‑education teacher, Konstantin Pavlovich, who does not take her seriously. Her classmate Varya Bulatnikova, who has suffered a difficult childhood, seeks revenge after discovering that Marina’s father had an affair with Varya’s mother. Varya becomes a prostitute and, after being hired by a pimp, starts a relationship with Konstantin, claiming that Marina works as a prostitute. When Konstantin falls for Varya, Marina witnesses them kissing and becomes outraged. Later, Konstantin rapes Marina, realizing she is a girl, and Varya informs him she is pregnant, forcing him to marry her. At the wedding, Varya’s mother announces the bride is infertile, while Marina’s father reveals his daughter is pregnant. Konstantin rushes to Marina, who lives with fellow student Valentin Tylunin, and asks for another chance.
