The case had gained significant attention, involving another complainant, Sujata Bhatt, who retracted her claim of a daughter going missing in 2003. The arrest has sparked a political controversy, with the BJP accusing the state's Congress government of acting hastily. BJP Karnataka spokesperson, G.S. Prasant, stated, “This was done, I repeat, only to belittle the beliefs of Hindu devotees.” The controversy involves allegations of an attempt to malign Hindu religious sites.
