In this video essay, I explore two key aspects of cultural identity and representation. In the first chapter, I dive into why many Desi Gen Z kids needed a “Pinterest‑fied” Desi aesthetic to finally see their culture as beautiful and worth embracing, unpacking the role of curated visuals in reshaping cultural self‑worth. In the second chapter, I examine the troubling trend of Western brands rebranding traditional South Asian garments like the dupatta as so‑called “Scandinavian scarves,” erasing their origins and whitewashing heritage in the name of fashion.
