A plane carrying 42 passengers and six crew crashed about 16 km (10 miles) from its destination in the far‑eastern Amur region of Russia. Russian rescue services found the wreckage after reports that it had vanished from radar screens as it approached Tynda airport. No one is thought to have survived. Amur's regional governor Vasily Orlov said all necessary resources had been deployed to find the plane, and that five children were among those on board.
