I received a tiny, dirty Zippo lighter from a subscriber and set out to restore it to pristine condition. I carefully disassembled the miniature device, removing the outer and inner casings, the flint wheel, and the flint spring. Using fine glass beads and low‑pressure air, I sandblasted the outer shell, then polished it with 1000‑grit sandpaper and a miniature polishing machine to achieve a brilliant shine. Inside, I cleaned the case by hand with a toothbrush, hot water, and soap, and then polished it with a small drill to mirror‑smooth it. I applied a layer of 24‑carat gold to the base cover and the lower part of the case, and engraved a cute hippo and the word “Hipopótamo” on the lid. After reassembling the lighter, I installed a new wick, fresh cotton balls, flint, and added premium Zippo lighter fluid. The finished product looks stunning, and I’m thrilled to share this restoration project with viewers.
