Vorkuta, a coal‑mining town in northeastern European Russia just north of the Arctic Circle, once thrived with its satellite towns such as Severny, Tsementnozavodsky, Yur‑Shor, Promyshlenny, Vorgashor, Komsomolsky, Mulda, Zapolyarny, Oktyabrsky, Sovetsky and others. After the Soviet Union collapsed, many mines shut down due to accidents and high operating costs, prompting residents to leave and leaving the Vorkuta Ring largely abandoned or demolished. The video explores several ghost towns and abandoned sites near Vorkuta, including Zapolyarny, Tsementnozavodsky, the abandoned scientific measuring point Vega, an abandoned cement factory, and monuments in Vorgashor.
