MPs have voted in favor of a historic amendment to decriminalize women who end their own pregnancies, with a majority of 242. Introduced by Labour MP Tonia Antoniazzi, the amendment removes the risk of prosecution for women under outdated abortion laws. While abortion remains legal up to 24 weeks with two doctors’ approval, it is still technically a criminal offense under 19th- and early 20th-century legislation. The change, not yet law, is part of the Crime and Policing Bill moving through Parliament, the U.S. Sun has reported. Advocates, including the British Pregnancy Advisory Service, called it a landmark step for women’s rights.
