This is the second part of the Unreal Engine 5 bicycle riding system with full body IK character tutorial series. In this episode, I implement a bicycle riding system based on the Chaos Advanced Vehicle System. The bicycle features a skeletal mesh with fully functional turning handles, pedals, wheels, and a dedicated animation blueprint. The character is driven by a procedural animation system using a Control Rig that utilizes Unreal Engine’s full body IK system, allowing pedaling, turning, and other movements to be handled procedurally at runtime. We focus on the pedals, adding a mechanism in the animation blueprint to rotate the cogwheel and pedals only when the player accelerates, while keeping the pedals horizontal to maintain realistic foot placement.
