Marina Petrovna's husband, Boris Ivanovich, leaves her after nineteen years of marriage. His abandoned wife refuses to grant him a divorce. She doesn't believe his new love is serious. Their eighteen-year-old daughter, Natasha, supports her mother. By chance, Natasha meets a young man, a taxi driver named Vasya, and goes with him to Novgorod to visit his parents. Worried, Marina Petrovna and Boris Ivanovich follow her. Concern for their daughter's fate and the realization of their shared responsibility for her future reunite the couple.
