The Piano Trio in G minor by Clara Schumann was written in 1846 and is labeled as Op. 17. It is a work for piano, violin, and cello and has four movements: I. Allegro moderato (00:00), II. Scherzo, tempo di minuetto (10:27), III. Andante (15:11), and IV. Allegretto (20:36). The first movement, Allegro moderato, is in G minor, common time, with a tempo of 152 quarter notes per minute. The second movement, Scherzo, is in B‑flat major, 3/4 time, and the accompanying Trio is in E‑flat major, also 3/4 time, both at 160 quarter notes per minute. The third movement, Andante, is in G major, 6/8 time, at 112 eighth notes per minute. The final movement, Allegretto, is in G minor, 2/4 time, at 96 quarter notes per minute. Clara Schumann (née Clara Josephine Wieck; 13 September 1819 – 20 May 1896) was a German musician and composer, considered one of the most distinguished pianists of the Romantic era. She had a 61‑year concert career that shaped the piano recital format and public taste. Her husband, composer Robert Schumann, and she encouraged Johannes Brahms; she was the first to perform publicly any of Brahms’s works and later premiered several of his pieces, notably the Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel.
