Clock ticking: Trump to decide on US action in Israel-Iran war

U.S. President Donald Trump will decide within the next two weeks whether to involve the United States directly in the escalating Israel‑Iran air war, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Thursday, June 19. Quoting the president, Leavitt said: “Based on the fact that there’s a substantial chance of negotiations, that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision whether or not to go, within the next two weeks.” She said Trump’s top priority remains preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and restoring stability in the region. Leavitt added that the U.S. has already sent Iran a “practical and realistic” nuclear deal, warning that if Tehran rejects the offer, it will face “grave consequences.” She reiterated that the proposed deal would prohibit Iran from enriching uranium and eliminate its ability to develop a nuclear weapon. While expressing support for diplomacy, Leavitt declined to say whether Trump would seek congressional approval before launching any potential strikes against Iran.
