During a visit to the Shaolin temple, I met a stout teacher with a gray beard who taught me exercises and advised me not to overexert myself. He said, 'If people tried less, the world would be better,' and that we should love what we do rather than force ourselves. I questioned how I could love something that hurt, and he smiled, encouraging me to keep trying. He then abruptly told me not to try, and with a firm gesture, reminded me to let go of effort.
