Mass shooting in Mexico leaves several dead and injured

At least 11 people were killed and several others wounded in a mass shooting during a Catholic holiday celebration in Irapuato, central Mexico, on Tuesday night, June 24. The attack occurred during a family gathering for San Juan’s Day. Witnesses said the celebration had been peaceful until gunmen suddenly opened fire, forcing attendees to flee in panic. One of the victims was a 17-year-old minor. Local authorities confirmed the death toll on Wednesday and said several people remain hospitalised with gunshot injuries. The incident took place in Guanajuato state, one of Mexico's most violent regions, where rival gangs frequently clash over drug trafficking and other criminal enterprises. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum called the killings a "regrettable multiple homicide" and said the matter was under investigation. Authorities also reported five more people were killed in separate incidents across the state on the same day.
