The Russian missile cruiser Moskva, a 1982-built vessel of the Black Sea Fleet, was struck by Ukrainian Neptune cruise missiles on 13 April 2022, causing severe damage and a fire that forced the ship to abandon its course and sink. The incident followed the cruiser’s participation in the assault on the Kerch Strait and the island of Snake Island, where it had been involved in artillery preparation. The Moskva was declared lost, with 27 crew members missing and 396 survivors, marking the largest naval loss for Russia since 1941.
