Putin’s new Burevestnik super-missile is a symptom of a dangerously frayed global nuclear order

Last week, Russia tested its new Burevestnik super missile. Powered by a nuclear reactor, the missile can cruise for tens of thousands of kilometres. The technology that powers the Burevestnik dates back to the 1950s, though, and was abandoned because of its lack of strategic rationale. The real significance of the Burevestnik is what it tells us about the fraying of the nuclear weapons order.
