Robotech: The Untold Story - The Movie - 4K - Frame Accurate Remaster/Restoration - 2023

My take on a Robotech: The Untold Story restoration. The goal was to hunt for the best available elements and present them in as high a quality as I could. I went through all available releases, found the best soundtrack, and used it as a guide to match the movie shot-for-shot from the Blu‑ray versions of Megazone 23 and Robotech. I even acquired the Japanese Pioneer Special Edition DVD set of Southern Cross, but found its transfer, compression, and elements inferior to the already poor Robotech Blu‑rays. Once I had the movie cut, I ran it through Topaz Video Enhance AI to upscale the footage to 4K. For the Southern Cross footage, I also ran it through Topaz DeNoise AI because it looked worse than the Megazone footage. For the titles, I found a font close to the originals used in the movie, and used Photoshop to create new titles, matching the size, placement, and opacity of the originals. The last step was a color correction in Premiere. The Southern Cross footage came off a little washed out, so I referenced the color timing of the movie, the original Japanese DVDs, and the Megazone footage to find a happy medium.
