Rust is a multiplayer survival game developed by Facepunch, originally inspired by DayZ and Minecraft. It began as a copy of DayZ and drew influence from Minecraft, leading to distinct graphics in Rust Legacy and Rust Experimental. The developers aim to incorporate natural elements such as weather, adding rain and fog. In the Experimental version, animal models were updated, zombies removed, health metrics changed, and the building system was overhauled—half-blocks were removed, double doors and gears added, and doors now need to be built separately based on type. Stability of construction was improved, decay now affects not only building blocks but also other items like sleeping gear. Most items from Rust Legacy were carried over to Rust Experimental, though some were removed or altered. The new version offers a wider variety of gear, from clothing to equipment, and features a procedurally generated map, eliminating a single map per server. Hunger, thirst, and metabolism mechanics were reworked to enhance gameplay.
