Vivaldi: La Folia (Madness) -- Apollo's Fire

Antonio Vivaldi's "La Folia" (Madness), arranged by Jeannette Sorrell after Sonata XII, was performed live by the Cleveland Baroque Orchestra on November 1, 2011, at Koerner Hall in Toronto. The Folia, an ancient Spanish/Portuguese dance, traditionally became faster and wilder toward the end, and its dancers were said to be "mad," giving the dance its name. The performance featured violin solos by Olivier Brault and Johanna Novom, with René Schiffer on continuo cello, William Simms on guitar, and Jeannette Sorrell on harpsichord and direction, among other musicians.
