In 2025 I decided to revisit Mafia II and encountered an unpleasant truth: the game we considered a legend did not hold up to the test of time. In this video I discuss why the first winter part of Mafia 2 still works, where and why the atmosphere breaks down, the repetitive NPCs and sloppy details, why 90 % of the game is driving, the weak shooting and dull fights, strange cutscenes and Russian voice‑over, PhysX that was cool but didn’t save the game, how Mafia 2 falls short compared to GTA 4 and Max Payne 3, and why memories of it are better than the actual gameplay. This is not hate or an attempt to destroy the legend; it’s an honest conversation about why Mafia 2 feels different after years. I ask viewers if they agree with this analysis or if Mafia 2 is still a masterpiece for them. The video was made in anticipation of the New Year as an attempt to bring back that feeling.
