This chocolate cake, called "Rêve", is made with eggs, sugar, flour, cocoa, water, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. The batter is whisked until light and airy, then combined with the dry ingredients and poured into a 21 cm pan. It bakes at 180 °C for 40–45 minutes, then cools in the pan before being transferred to a wire rack. A custard is prepared by whisking eggs, sugar, vanilla sugar, and cornstarch, adding milk, and cooking until thick before cooling to room temperature. The softened butter is beaten and folded into the custard, which is then layered between slices of the cake that have been lightly soaked in milk. The assembled cake is wrapped and chilled for at least two hours, preferably overnight, to set. Finally, a chocolate glaze is made by melting butter and chocolate together, then poured over the chilled cake.
