Based on the story by V. Bogomolov "Ivan", the childhood of a 12‑year‑old Ivan ends with the onset of war. Left without parents, he joins a military unit and becomes a scout, risking his life to gather information about the enemy. After the victory and the defeat of Berlin, Ivan never returns from his last assignment.
