Description :

The city of Munster was gradually formed around the monastery founded at the confluence of the two Fecht under Childeric II around 660 by monks who were disciples of Pope Saint Gregory the Great. Located in the heart of Alsace, it lies in one of the largest and most beautiful valleys on the Alsatian side of the Hautes‑Vosges. The natural environment, the historical heritage of the city, and its name associated with the famous Munster cheese are major assets that attract many tourists. The Munster valley – or Val Saint Grégoire – is made up of sixteen municipalities, with Munster as the cantonal capital. Its landscapes, which blend tradition and modernity, offer visitors a range of colors that change with the seasons. The valley’s location on the edge of the mountains and close to the Alsace plain allows a multitude of summer and winter activities such as hiking, skiing, cycling, climbing, and trail running. Munster can accommodate nearly 2,600 visitors in hotels, tourist residences, gîtes, furnished accommodation, holiday villages, and campsites.
