Part 3 Titanic Sinking - Making of #3 ❄︎

To film #titanic and to recreate the ship’s sinking in Titanic, the crew used a mix of practical rigs and camera work: life-jacket rigs on wheels so actors could glide and look like they were falling, a set packed with 150 extras, tilting the set (and sometimes the camera) to exaggerate the incline, rubber and foam stand‑ins for decks and props to keep stunts safe, dummy figures for dangerous falls, and a massive stern section that could tilt up to 90°. They also mixed in CGI stunts—unusual for the time—to enhance the chaos. A famous gag among the crew was the “toilet paper shot”: a rolling tube used as a placeholder for a falling person that was later replaced with a CGI human in post.
