Speaking at the UN Security Council in New York on Thursday, Sudan’s UN envoy Al‑Harith Idriss criticised the participation of the UAE, whose military and financial support for Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces has been well documented. "Mr President, I wonder why the representative of a country with the blood of innocent Sudanese on its hands is allowed to address this esteemed council as if it’s a country that cares for peace or stability," said Idriss. MEE reported in January 2024 that the UAE was supplying the RSF with weapons through a complex network of supply lines and alliances stretching across Libya, Chad, Uganda, and breakaway regions of Somalia. As recently as October, US intelligence agencies reported that the UAE has increased its supply of Chinese drones and other weapon systems to the RSF.
