Man accused of faking his death to evade charges found guilty of rape in Utah

Nicholas Alahverdian, a Rhode Island fugitive who once faked his death to avoid U.S. rape charges, has been convicted in Utah of first-degree rape for assaulting his then-girlfriend in 2008. Prosecutors say he trapped and raped the woman after becoming abusive during their relationship. The 38‑year‑old faces five years to life in prison when sentenced on Oct. 20 and still awaits trial in a separate 2008 rape case involving another woman, USA Today has reported.
