NSW Police have released dramatic CCTV footage showing the moment two masked arsonists accidentally set themselves ablaze while torching a salon in Burwood, in Sydney’s inner west. Emergency services were called to the shop just after 5 am on Friday, June 13, after reports of a fire broke out at the premises. The footage, made public on Monday, July 7, shows the suspects breaking into the salon, dousing the floor with an accelerant, and slipping as they fumble to ignite it. Seconds later, one of the men lights the flammable liquid—setting his pants on fire as the blaze erupts. Both suspects flee the scene in a panic. Firefighters extinguished the fire, and no injuries were reported. Residents from the apartment complex above the salon were evacuated as a precaution. NSW Police have launched an investigation and are urging anyone with information to come forward. They believe the two men captured on CCTV may be able to assist with their inquiries.
