More than three years of war with Russia and unrelenting artillery barrages – the biggest since World War II – have sown Ukrainian soil with millions of tons of ordnance, much of it unexploded. Professional deminers are hard at work, but their task is so big that many locals have started demining themselves. Drones, which have revolutionised the way war is fought in Ukraine, could also become a game changer in demining the country.
