A plume of smoke billows over the Gaza Strip seen from southern Israel as the army continues operations while taking "tactical pauses" in some areas of the Palestinian territory to enable aid distribution. Israel says more than 120 truckloads of food aid were distributed by the UN and aid agencies in Gaza on the first day of a promised limited break in fighting.
