My take on a Robotech: The Untold Story restoration. The goal was to hunt for the best available elements and present them in as high a quality as I possibly could. I went through all available releases and found the best soundtrack I could and then used that as a guild to go match the movie shot-for-shot from the blu-ray versions of Megazone 23 and Robotech. I went so far as to acquire the Japanese Pioneer Special Edition DVD set of Southern Cross, but found the transfer, compression and elements inferior to the already crapy Robotech blu-rays. Once I had I the movie cut, I ran the movies through Topaz Video Enhance AI to get the footage to 4K. For the Southern Cross footage, I also ran it through Topaz DeNoise AI because...well it really looked like crap compared to the Megazone footage. For the titles, I found a font that was pretty close to the originals used in the movie. I used photoshop to create the new titles, matching the size, placement and opacity to the originals. Last step was a color correction in Premiere. The Southern Cross footage in particular came off as a little washed out. I tried to reference the color timing of the Movie, the original Japanese DVDs and the Megazone footage to find a happy medium.
