Voyager 1 and Voyager 2, launched in 1977, have been exploring space for almost 45 years. Despite their modest 69‑kilobyte memory and a planned four‑year mission, both spacecraft continue to send data back to Earth from beyond the heliosphere. They are the longest‑operating human‑made objects and the first to cross the boundary between the Sun’s influence and interstellar space.
