Australia’s Anthony Albanese claimed a historic second term as prime minister on Saturday, in a dramatic comeback against once-resurgent conservatives. Albanese's victory was powered by voters' concerns about the influence of U.S. President Donald Trump. Addressing cheering crowds at Labor Party headquarters in Sydney, Albanese announced the win saying that Australians had voted for "Australian values." "In this time of global uncertainty, Australians have chosen optimism and determination. Australians have chosen to face global challenges the Australian way; looking after each other while building forward the future," Albanese said. Albanese is the first Australian prime minister to win a consecutive term in two decades. Meanwhile, voters fired up barbecues and wore tight-fit swim trunks called "budgy smugglers" to voting centres as they welcomed election day with unique and quirky traditions.
