Death Angel, a pioneering Californian thrash metal band, struggled for recognition in their early years. After a decade-long hiatus, they returned in 2001 and have since achieved more success than in their formative period. In 2025 they performed at the Rock Hard Festival, where Rockpalast recorded their concert, including the track “The Dream Calls For Blood.” The band’s breakthrough came with the 1990 album Act III, a blend of Bay Area thrash, heavy metal, and funk that captured the era’s spirit. A drummer injury in the early 1990s led to the group’s split, but a reunion at the Thrash of the Titans benefit concert marked their return. Since then, Death Angel has grown in popularity, touring major metal festivals and sharing stages with Testament, Exodus, and Overkill. They continue to write new material, with the 2019 single “Humanicide” nominated for a Grammy, and have toured North America and Europe in 2022, serving as the opening act for Kreator and Sepultura on the “Klash of the Titans” tour in 2023.
