Former Indonesian death row prisoner Serge Atlaoui released in France | AFP

Serge Atlaoui, former death row inmate in Indonesia for drug trafficking, transferred and incarcerated in February in France, is released from Meaux prison (Seine-et-Marne) after twenty years of detention. Atlaoui was arrested in 2005 near Jakarta, accused of being a drug lab "chemist", a claim he always denied, stating he only installed machinery. Initially sentenced to life, he was later condemned to death in 2007. A 2015 execution was halted at the last minute after diplomatic appeals from France.
