In Haiti's capital Port-au-Prince, gangs control 90% of the city. Government authority has all but collapsed, and ordinary Haitians are trapped in a daily struggle for survival. In the past six months, more than 4,000 people have been killed, and more than a million have been forced to flee their homes as violence and insecurity spread. The Caribbean island nation has been engulfed in a wave of gang violence since the assassination in 2021 of former president Jovenel Moïse.
