Descrizione:

Al‑Masjid an‑Nabawi, located in Medina, Saudi Arabia, was founded in 622 CE by the Prophet Muhammad after the Hijra. Over the centuries it has been expanded and restored during the Umayyad, Abbasid, Mamluk, Ottoman, and Saudi periods, resulting in its current expansive and modern form. The mosque features wide courtyards, numerous domes—including the famous Green Dome—, minarets, retractable awnings, and modern climate control and lighting systems. It also houses Rawda al‑Mutahhara, a special area between the Prophet’s tomb and his pulpit, which holds particular significance in Islamic tradition. The mosque is open year‑round, with increased visitation during Hajj and Umrah, and is accessible from the Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport. Al‑Masjid an‑Nabawi remains a central place of worship and a significant historical monument in the Islamic world.
