I visited Tianducheng, the so‑called "fake Paris" in China, a massive replica of Paris with a 57‑storey Eiffel Tower and French‑style streets. The project aimed to let wealthy Chinese live the European dream without traveling, but the city remains a ghost town: no lights, no people, cafés closed, and even wedding photographers have left. The architecture is beautiful, yet the absence of residents and community makes it feel empty. The failure of Tianducheng shows that a city cannot be built only with buildings; it needs identity, people, and life.
