Israel Sends Planeloads Of Arms To Azerbaijan As It Battles Armenia | What Does It Want In Return?

An investigation by Israeli newspaper Haaretz has revealed an alleged quid pro quo between Tel Aviv and Baku. Since 2016, nearly 100 flights flown by Azerbaijani Silk Way Airlines have reportedly landed at Israel’s Ovda airbase, the only airfield in Israel through which explosives may be flown into and out of the country. In return, Azerbaijan supplies Israel with oil and access to its arch‑enemy Iran. Azerbaijan has reportedly allowed Israeli intelligence agency Mossad to set up a forward branch to monitor Iran. Tehran’s neighbour to the north has even prepared an airfield intended to aid Israel in case it decides to attack Iranian nuclear sites.
