Directed by Bruce Gowers, the video features Jackson dancing in a sequined jumpsuit and matching boots against a set of shimmering lasers. The short film was ranked No. 6 on Rolling Stone's list of Michael's 20 greatest videos. It was released as a single on November 3, 1979, reached No. 1 in the United States in 1980, and was certified Gold and later Platinum by the RIAA. The song was written by Rod Temperton and produced by Quincy Jones.
