Astronomers warn of increased solar storms as a highly active sunspot region rotates toward Earth. NASA recorded 2025’s strongest solar flare so far—a X2.7-class eruption—that caused brief radio blackouts in the Middle East. More flares and coronal mass ejections from this region could disrupt radio signals, power grids, navigation systems, and pose risks to satellites and astronauts. The Sun is currently at its solar maximum, the peak of its 11‑year activity cycle, and the heightened activity may also bring spectacular auroras as charged particles reach Earth’s atmosphere.
